basted and ready to quilt

I had plans to sew this week.  I always overestimate how much I can get done :0)  One project was to piece the backing for my Crowfoot quilt.

Next was to get it basted for handquilting.  I was going to try the Sharon Schamber method or at least use a table but...  I am such a chicken and went with my reliable floor basting method.  This is a large quilt - much larger than any I had thread basted before.  It took 3 long evenings to baste.  Wow, did my knees and elbows pay.  I hope I've learned my lesson and will try something different next time!
Now though, I look forward to all the happy hours I will spend hand quilting.

Happy Quilting!!

the quilt is absolutely beautiful
wow. I really love the scrappy blocks and that border is perfect. Did you use all one blue fabric for the sashing and outer border, hard to tell in the picture?
also in the border is that every fabric you included in the quilt blocks?
I have always wanted to do something like this.

I'm the same way. I've used Sharon Schamber's method for a smaller quilt and I've been putting off trying it on my large quilt I have ready to layer. I have other projects in hoops and I'm using the excuse that I need to finish these other quilts first...but I know the true reason. I'm nervous, because I don't know what I'm getting myself in for. We always have a fear of the unknown. I just need to do it. It will probably be wonderfully easy and I'll be kicking myself for procrastinating so long from trying!!

Very nice....just love the colors in there! I take 4 beams who are longer then the quilts I make and glue on a paper tapemeasure with a 0 in the middle then you can make a frame from the sizes of youre quilt by glue clamb. Put the frame on top of 4 chairs and stuck the quilt layer by layer with pushpins in there. If thats finished you can shout the tags in there... a peace of cake and no more pain in knees and arms! Take care...

The colors on this quilt are just lovely. All that crawling around the floor will be well worth the effort. This quilt is going to be a treasure.

Ouch! your poor knees. I love to hand quilt on a sew basted quilt.
I love this pattern.
You can also sew baste on a table. I use my old olfa mats and just drape the quilt a section at a time on the table top and baste it in sections.
You can also get a cheap banquet table for the same purpose.
How nice to have a quilt to work on this fall/winter

ask around of your local long arm machine quilters- a quilt can be thread basted on the frame and save your knees and elbows...

Basting is one of those necessary chores! The floor is one of the hardest ways to do it. I've tried Harriet Hargrave's using a church/picnic style table and that works good too.
It is beautiful!!

That's one gorgeous quilt. I have a feeling you won't be basting on the floor again, I'm sure you'll find a good method for next time.

I would never be able to get up off the floor if I had to do that. Can't wait to see your quilting.

Your quilt is already so beautiful.. I can't wait to see how hand quilting transforms it even further!

I've successful used Sharon method for basting.. Like every method as long as you are methodical and baste thoroughly then you shouldn't have any issues :-)
